Charli D’Amelio and Dixie D’Amelio are receiving backlash and losing fans after they maltreated their private chef in the debut episode of their family’s latest video series Dinner With The D’Amelios.

On November 16, the family’s video was released on YouTube with James Charles as their first guest. However, viewers noticed how the two sisters were rude towards their private chef, Aaron May. He served a huge plate of paella but Dixie was repulsed by the snail in it. She tasted it and then gagged with her dad, Marc D’Amelio, telling her not to be so dramatic. Dixie left the room and threw up. Her mom, Heidi D’ Amelio, said, “Classic Dixie.” Meanwhile, her sister asked if they have Dino Nuggets.

When Dixie returned to the table, she explained that there was a salty part in the food that made her throw up. She told the chef, “You have a child, what do you, like, think is going to happen?”

On the other hand, Charli, who happens to have 98.8 million fans and known as the most-followed TikToker, complained about the fact that she hasn’t reached 100 million fans yet. She said, “Ugh, I wish I had, like, more time because imagine if I hit 100 mil a year after hitting a mil.” James replied by saying, “Was the 95 not enough for you?”

Charli answered, “Well, I was just like saying like, even numbers.”

The video received a lot of backlash from viewers and their fans. Many noticed how James had manners and was polite the whole time contrary to the two sisters. In fact, one commented that the sisters were disgusting and disrespectful.

One user praised James and wrote, “Alright cancel culture, you know what to do but don’t touch James because he was actually POLITE.”

Buzzfeed News reported that Charli has received hate messages and has lost 500,000 followers since the video was uploaded. On November 19, she responded with an emotional Instagram Live where she explained that everything was a huge misunderstanding.

“Seeing how people reacted to this, I don’t even know if I want to do this anymore,” she said, crying. “This is messed up stuff that people are saying. Like people telling me to hang myself. People just blatantly disrespecting the fact that I’m still a human being is not okay at all.

She continued, “We should have done better on our part with the editing to make you guys know that it was a joke and that’s on me. I take full responsibility for that.”

She also explained what she meant by her comment about reaching another milestone. She said, “When I had said about the followers things, I genuinely just thought it would be so cool to hit a huge, huge milestone a year after hitting another milestone. I never meant for you guys to make it seem like you were numbers or did not mean anything.”

On the other hand, her sister also received hate messages and lost several followers. She said in a TikTok video, “So my family and I have been working with Chef Aaron May for a couple months now, working on content for our channel, working on content for his channel, and made an amazing friendship. I’m so grateful for every single person that follows me, every single person I care about, every single person I work with, every single person who works with me because I’m just so grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had, so I would never in any way want to be taken as disrespectful, especially from an out-of-context 15-second clip.”

She went on saying, “So basically, my team knows I throw up a lot. I throw up at the smell, the thought or the taste of anything. So when they saw the snails, they were like, ‘Oh, let’s get her and try to see if we can get a reaction out of her.'”

Dixie also mentioned that they cut the part wherein May and her team convinced her to taste snail. She said, “I love Chef and I would never disrespect him in any way. And maybe don’t judge someone’s personality over a 15-second video.”
