Demi Lovato is all about body positivity!
The 28-year-old singer has been an advocate of body positivity for years after battling with an eating disorder. During the Christmas holiday, the pop star shared pictures of her stretch marks covered in glitter. It only shows that one doesn’t have to hide them but just like Lovato, you let them sparkle.
She posted the photos on Instagram with a message. She wrote,”I used to genuinely believe recovery from an eating disorder wasn’t real. That everyone was faking or secretly relapsing behind closed doors. ‘Surely she throws up here and there,’ ‘she can’t POSSIBLY accept her cellulite’… those we’re just a few of the things that I used to tell myself growing up.”
She continued, “I’m so grateful that I can honestly say for the first time in my life – my dietitian looked at me and said ‘This is what eating disorder recovery looks like.’ In honor of my gratitude for the place I’m in today, this was a lil shoot I did by myself in quarantine this summer when I wanted to celebrate my stretch marks instead of being ashamed of them.”
According to Lovato, she decided to apply glitter on her stretch marks as her way to “celebrate my body and all of it’s features (whether society views them as good OR bad).”
She explained, “My stretch marks aren’t going away so might as well throw a lil glitter on em’ amiright? Also let this be a reminder to anyone who doesn’t think it’s possible: IT ACTUALLY IS…YOU CAN DO IT. I BELIEVE IN YOU.”
Lovato mentioned, “This year was tough.. be gentle on yourself if you slip up and remember to get right back on track because you’re WORTH THE MIRACLE OF RECOVERY…I LOVE YOU.”- Advertisement -
Lovato has always been open about her struggles with bulimia as well as her personal difficulties in life. She also shares photos of her body occasionally.
In 2018, she also took to Instagram to share her views. She said that despite having stretch marks and extra fat, she still loves herself. She added that even with cellulite, she still loves herself, too.
Aside from Lovato, there are other celebrities who are also against body shaming. Lizzo, Kate Winslet, Cindy Crawford, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Serena Williams, and more also advocate for body positivity.
