Is Olivia Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License” About a Love Triangle?

Right after Olivia Rodrigo dropped her very first song Driver’s License on January 8, 2021, fans weren’t able to stop from dissecting the song and now thoughts about a love triangle between the 17-year-old Disney star and her former co-star Joshua Bassett (20) as well as singer Sabrina Carpenter (21) are up in the air. It seems that the drama, the musical, and the triangle, are coming to life.

Back in 2017, Rodrigo and Bassett were on-screen lovers on the spin-off of Disney’s iconic High School Musical and were rumoured to have had a real-life dating relationship in the past. Fans have then speculated a break-up between the Disney couple the moment Rodrigo published a TikTok post concerning a failed relationship.

And now that Driver’s License is up in the air, things get juicier given that certain lyrics of the song speak of a certain someone writing songs about her (Rodrigo) and not meaning it. This is where fans dropped the bomb by assuming that Rodrigo was talking about her former co-star and former flame (Bassett) because way back in 2020, Bassett released multiple songs that speak of love that has been lost.

In April, he dropped Common Sense which speaks of someone wanting to have another shot in a failed relationship. He also dropped another track Anyone Else which hints about a certain ex-girlfriend that has finally moved on and is with another guy, and him (Bassett) no longer pretending that he wants ‘anyone else’. Fans assume that he was talking about Rodrigo, then soon speculated that Rodrigo’s newly released song is about Bassett. But where does Carpenter comes in the picture?

Way back in November, Bassett and Carpenter posted a TikTok video, which is technically a spoof audition tape for Sharkboy and Lavagirl. They were both in costumes and might suggest that the two have spent some time during the quarantine. However, back to Rodrigo’s debut song, she talked about a blonde girl who is much older than her and makes her insecure.

Perhaps it just so happens that Carpenter is four years older than Rodrigo and is very blonde. Coincidence? Maybe not, now that Twitter is establishing that Rodrigo’s former lyrics were referring to a ‘brunette’ girl and that Rodrigo later made a dynamic move and changed it to blonde. Also, Carpenter is a part of the Disney Channel family.

And back in December, Bassett released another song, Heaven is You, which talks about him (Bassett) being so in love with someone. Now fans want to know if he is talking about Carpenter. In the meantime, Bassett just announced that he is releasing his new music on the 14th with the title Lie, lie, lie and fans can’t wait to hear it and break it down.
