People loved watching their favorite actors and actresses onscreen as they portray different roles. But did you know that some of them experience the side effects of some of these roles? Nicole Kidman is proof of such impact.
The actress discussed about it with Marc Maron on his podcast WTF With Marc Maron. Nicole talked about the physical and mental effects of her roles in Big Little Lies and The Undoing.
In doing her two roles, she transformed into the character. She explained, “Even on The Undoing it kind of happened where I just like suddenly was in this place of… There was sort of a disquietness to my personality where I was uneasy and there was duress on who I was.”
In The Undoing, Nicole played the wife who became involved I her husband’s murder case. She revealed that she became really sick during the production saying, “I went down for a week, because your immune system it doesn’t know the difference between acting and truth when you’re doing them.”
Nicole admitted that other actors can train their bodies to know that it’s just acting but this isn’t true in her case. The 53-year-old claimed that she would often leave the set feeling unwell and couldn’t sleep well.
She recalled the time she felt traumatized when she found out that director Stanley Kubrick director of Eyes Wide Shut, has passed away. She explained that the director faxed her the night before he died asking her to call him but she wasn’t able to do so. The next day, she found out he died and she started screaming and collapsed on the floor because she was very close to him.
She said, “I have a huge fear of phone calls in the night now, because I’ve received a number of them with that sort of news, my father included.”
Meanwhile, her former husband Tom Cruise stood by her when she was having these traumatic moments while they were doing Eyes Wide Shut. According to her, “My hat is off to Tom on it, because it was like every single day, whereas I would be told, ‘You can go home and wait at the house on standby. And I was naughty because after being on standby for two months and never being called in… I decided, ‘Yeah, I’m going to go to Paris for a few days.'”
She also mentioned that Tom would check on her at home and a friend would be there to lie for her only to discover she was in Sydney. She said, “Tom was like, ‘Aww, we’re screwed. You’re going to have to call Stanley. So I was like, ‘Stanley, I’m sorry. I’m actually not in the house, I’m in Sydney,’ and he goes, ‘Unfaithful woman.'”
Nicole said that her experience with filming Eyes Wide Shut was very different from doing Big Little Lies. She’s also hoping they’ll get a third season because working on it made her feel good.
