Motherhood has changed Keira Knightley in many ways including the fact that she’ll no longer do sex scenes directed by men.
The actress appeared on the Channel Connects podcast together with director Lulu Wang and writer Diane Solway where she explained her reason behind adding a no nudity clause to all her contracts after giving birth in 2015.

She explained, “It’s partly vanity and it’s partly also it’s the male gaze. If I was making a story that was about that journey of motherhood and body acceptance, I feel like, I’m sorry, but that would have to be with a female filmmaker.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean star added, “I don’t have an absolute ban [on nudity], but I kind of do with men… I don’t want it to be those horrible sex scenes where you’re all greased up and everybody is grunting. I’m not interested in doing that.”
The 35-year-old actress said she has nothing against sex but she just feels uncomfortable when portraying the male gaze. She added she’s rather have other “hot” actresses do nude roles.
“There’s times where I go, ‘Yeah, I completely see where this sex would be really good in this film and you basically just need somebody to look hot,’ and so therefore you can use somebody else. Because I’m too vain, and the body has had two children now, and I’d just rather not stand in front of a group of men naked,” she added.
Knightley tied the knot with James Righton on 2013 and they share together two daughters namely Edie, 5, and 17-month-old Delilah.
She also revealed that being a mom made her become a better actress. She told The Telegraph, “The weird thing with acting is that sleep deprivation basically makes your emotions very close to the surface. It’s much easier to cry. You feel like crying all the time, so I can turn that on like that, so this is great. Thanks kid.”
The Bend It Like Beckham star has been keeping it real about motherhood. During a promotional event for her movie, Official Secrets, she revealed, “This is about the third time since I gave birth that my hair has been brushed—and I didn’t brush it.”
She added, “I was in my pajamas when [my glam team] got there and this is somebody else’s dress…so it’s all smoke and mirrors today, which I’m super happy about, but I’ve just sort of been led here. And I’ve got six hours, so this is my workday.”
