Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s pregnancy announcement on Valentine’s Day was the talk of the online world. But did you know that there’s more to that than the couple sharing the good news?
To start, the date of their announcement, February 14, is very significant because it also marked the 37th anniversary of when the late Princess Diana, Harry’s mom, announced that she was having her second child, Harry.

But the significance didn’t stop there. Have you ever wondered who’s behind the dress that Meghan wore for their pregnancy announcement? There’s actually a very powerful message behind her dress.
The Carolina Herrera dress was personally chosen by the Duchess herself. According to Wes Gordon, creative director, it was the same dress she wore when she was pregnant with her first child, Archie.
He explained to The Telegraph, “I made [the dress] for her when she was pregnant with Archie, so almost two years ago. There’s a reality, it’s 2021, and we have a world to save, right? This is an undeniable crisis, and everyone has to do their part.”
“At Herrera, we’re committed to pursuing sustainable fabrics,” Wes continued. “But the number one thing that someone can do for sustainability is hold on to those pieces you buy and use them for a longer amount of time. That’s why I think what Meghan did is such a powerful message.”
Gordon added that despite her dress being two years old doesn’t mean that it made the Duchess feel less special or less happy.
The black and white photo of the couple was taken by photographer Misan Harriman who is also a good friend of the couple. The couple was based in California and he was in London that time. So how did he take the photo?
Harriman explained on Good Morning America, “I was able to remotely take over the iPad and they could hear my voice and it was conversational and the rest really is history.”
In the photo, one can see the couple smiling at each other in front of a tree. Meghan’s head was on Prince Harry’s lap. The dress showed off her baby bump.
Misan said of the photo, “You don’t even see the image, you feel it. They are lost in each other. And the tree in the background and just life growing around them is incredibly powerful and symbolic.”
