DMX is currently on life support after he suffered from a heart attack as clarified by his lawyer.
The rapper whose real name is Earl Simmons was taken to a hospital in White Plains, New York, on Friday, April 2. Murray Richman, the Grammy nominee’s lawyer, told E! News that he is still on life support. He added that the 50-year-old rapper’s family also visited him in the said medical center. So far, there is no recent news regarding his condition.
TMZ broke the news regarding his hospitalization and Richman confirmed it on April 3. According to the outlet, DMX has a history of substance addiction and he had been to rehab before. He suffered from a drug overdose which in return triggered his heart attack. However, Richman hasn’t confirmed the cause of his heart attack with NBC News.
Meanwhile, Richman told NBC that the incident happened around 11 p.m. at the rapper’s home on Friday. He was in grave condition and was rushed immediately to the hospital. The lawyer and the rapper’s spokesperson misspoke about DMX being taken off life support and that he could breathe on his own.
The rapper’s representative clarified to TMZ on Saturday, “At this time he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer.”
Meanwhile, many celebrities offered their support to the rapper. Missy Elliott tweeted, “Prayers for DMX and his family” together with DMX and his family’s pic, a prayer, and a purple heart emoji.
Another rapper, MC Hammer, tweeted a prayer emoji with the words, “Speak Life !!! Prayers for #DMX.”
Juicy J tweeted, “Prayers up for DMX” while Tracy Morgan tweeted, “Prayers out for DMX, we’re praying for you brother.”
Further, Gabrielle Union also took to Twitter to post, “Please pray, send healing energy, whatever positive vibes you can for #DMX.” She added three prayer emojis and three black hears to her tweet.
Meanwhile, the rapper’s representative told TMZ, “The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl. Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”
