Elliot Page opened up to Oprah Winfrey for Apple TV+’s The Oprah Conversation about his top surgery and proper health care for trans individuals.
He explained during a sit-down interview with Oprah why he decided to come forward regarding his health during an interview with TIME magazine in March.
The actor told the talk show host, “I wanted to talk about it for a couple of reasons. I wanted to share with people just how much it has changed my life. And I want people to know that not only has it been life changing for me, I do believe it is life saving and it’s the case for so many people… and because there is such an attack on trans health care right now, when already there is such a lack of access or trans people who don’t even want to go to the doctor.”
The 34-year-old celebrity also discussed trans health care legislation in Texas where some lawmakers are planning to ban transgender youth from participating in sports according to their gender identity, especially as part of their extra-curricular activities from elementary to high school. According to him, these proposed laws are only based on “actual, complete and utter lies.”
“If you are going to do this, and if you are also not going to allow trans kids to play sports, children will die,” the actor added. “And it really is that simple.”
Page went public about being a transgender man last December then he had his first interview in March. He told TIME that during his early years, he grew up feeling “like a boy He then started “looking a certain way”, especially when it comes to his acting career which started when he was just 10.
According to Page, he felt joy and excitement since revealing his real sexuality. He said that “the most significant difference” is that now he can be his own self and be able to just exist.
He said, “For the first time in, I don’t even know how long, [I am] really just being able to sit by myself, be on my own, be productive, and be creative. It’s such an oversimplification to say it this way, but I’m comfortable.”
