There’s no happy ending for Katie Holmes and Emilio Vitolo Jr. as they finally called it quits.
A source told PEOPLE, “They split several weeks ago. There was no drama.” The pair sparked romance rumors in September last year and eventually confirmed their relationship.
“It was amazing while it lasted, but they are at very different places in life. Emilio has no hard feelings. His life is in N.Y.C. Katie can’t wait to get back to work and to travel again,” the source added.
The actress’ spokesperson told Us Weekly on Thursday, May 13, that Katie and the NYC restaurateur “have parted ways amicably but remain friends.”
The Dawson’s Creek alum has always been very private about her life that’s why many fans were surprised when she and Emilio were spotted and photographed kissing each other passionately while having dinner date in Manhattan.
The 42-year-old actress and the 33-year-old chef made their relationship public several times just like in December when Emilio paid a sweet birthday tribute to Katie by writing on Instagram, “Every time I see your face it makes me smile.”
In addition, the two also spend Valentine’s Day together in February this year. Katie took to Instagram to share a photo of a beautiful bouquet of red roses from Emilio. She captioned it, “Happy Valentine’s Day!!!!!”
Meanwhile, another source told PEOPLE in December how much the two enjoyed spending time together. The source revealed, “Since Katie is not working, they have had time to really get to know each other. Emilio thinks their relationship will continue to be strong in the new year. When things return to a more normal and Katie is working again, they will figure it out. For now, they enjoy all their time together in New York City.”
However, these past few weeks proved that they weren’t meant to be. An insider told Us Weekly, “Their relationship fizzled. They figured out they’re better off as friends… Katie and Emilio really enjoyed their time together—it just simply didn’t work out. She’s focusing on being a mom and her upcoming projects.”
Katie shares 15-year-old daughter Suri Cruise with her ex-husband Tom Cruise. She was also romantically linked to Jamie Foxx for years before they ended their relationship in 2019.
