For Friends fans, seeing Ross and Rachel ending up together was the kind of happily ever after people expect to see in the series. But what about in real life?
A few months ago, the highly anticipated Friends reunion was finally aired with lots of reminiscing and surprises. One of the revelations included David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston admitting they had a crush on each other. According to Closer, they’ve since been “spending time” at Aniston’s Los Angeles home.
However, the actor said it isn’t so and his rep also denied the rumors saying it’s “false”. The rumor spread online and fans started wondering if it’s true or not. One tweeted, “Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer are meant to be dating and I sincerely hope every word of this ‘source’ is true.”
Though they didn’t really end up together in real life just like their characters, the confirmation regarding their mutual crushes on each other was enough to make fans go crazy. During their reunion, Schwimmer said, “The first season, I had a major crush on Jen.”
Aniston piped in, “It was reciprocated.”
The question in many fans’ minds was why they didn’t just date each other? The actor explained, “At some point we were both crushing hard on each other, but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary.”
While they were still filming Friends, Jennifer was in a relationship with Brad Pitt. However, they decided to go their separate ways in 2005, just a year after the famous TV series’ finale aired. After which, she and Justin Theroux tied the knot and eventually separated in 2018 after less than three years of being married. On the other hand, Schwimmer and his ex-wife Zoë Buckman divorced in 2017.
Rest assured though that their mutual feelings for each other didn’t go unspoken. As Jennifer recalled, “I remember saying one time to David, ‘It’s going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is going to be on national television’. Sure enough, the first time we kissed was in that coffee shop. We just channeled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel.”
