Millie Court and Liam Reardon are Love Island UK season seven’s big winners.
On Monday, August 23, host Laura Whitmore announced during the season finale that the controversial couple ranked first with Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran at second. Meanwhile, Faye Winter and Teddy Soares got third place while Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank placed fourth.
Millie shared a video to inform fans about their win. She said, “Thank you so much everybody who voted for us. It means the world. We’ve had literally the summer of our lives. We’re gonna leave here and now explore our future together. We can’t wait, can we?”
Liam, 22, added, “Thank you everyone. We’re leaving together to continue our journey, so thank you.”
But not all fans were happy and satisfied about their win. For one, many viewers were unsure of Liam’s intentions after cheating on Millie during the Casa Amor episodes wherein he was caught kissing the new girl, Lillie.
Millie told Liam about how he betrayed her but based on the Mirror, he replied by saying, “I only want you, I don’t want anyone else… I’m here for you, and I’m going to do whatever I can to get that back. I’m crazy about you.”
Meanwhile, Amber Gill, former winner of the show, took to Twitter ad wrote, “If Millie didn’t get back with Liam I would have wanted her to win!”
A Twitter user wrote that in order to save the finale, Millie should take the prize money and not share it with Liam as “revenge” after he cheated. Another wrote, “how iconic would it have been if millie just stole the money though and said SIKE.”
Many fans referred to Millie as a “mug” because she still split the prize fairly with Liam even after he embarrassed her on television. A Twitter user wrote, “Liam had the best fun, lipsing two girls at the same time, got his girl back and secured 25k. What a holiday.”
On the other hand, there were viewers who alleged that the show was “rigged” and “racist”; after all, the two were the only all-white couple who made it in the final four.
In fact, Amber retweeted a user claiming, “Let’s not pretend … We all knew who was gonna win. This s–t is scripted. It’s the same every year… The only shocking season was when @AmberRoseGill won!”
