Kim Kardashian and Kanye West split six months ago but she intends to keep her married name.
The SKIMS founder and the rapper share four children- North, 8, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 2. Her children are her main priority and she considers it very important that they share the same last name. This makes it easier for her kids and prevents any confusion among them. Kim, Kanye, and their four children remain a family unit and it’s in their best interest that they all use the same last name.
Meanwhile, the multi-awarded rapper filed a request to change his name. This didn’t come as a surprise as he has gone by many names since he started a career in the music industry but this time around, he wants his name changed from Kanye Omari West to simply “Ye”. Based on the filing, he wants his name changed for personal reasons.
He first gave himself the said nickname in 2018 before he appeared on Saturday Night Live. He tweeted, “The being formally known as Kanye West…I am YE.”
Based on an interview, he revealed that it has a deeper spiritual meaning. He said, “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye — just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.”
Kim filed for divorce in February and didn’t hear much from Kanye since their split. However, they’re finally on the same page. They’ve been maintaining an excellent co-parenting relationship. Recently, Kanye took Kim and the kids to a museum and the former couple even had lunch together.
Further, the reality star was present during Kanye’s second album listening event on August 5 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. She was also present during the first event. This is the first album to be released by the musician since their split. He named the album, Donda, in honor of his late mother.
Kim isn’t seeing anybody at the moment while Kanye was rumored to be dating Irina Shayk. However, the two split recently.
