If there’s one thing YouTuber James Charles regretted doing, it has to be calling Ariana Grande the “rudest celebrity” four years ago.
James Charles addressed the issue that haunted him for years now and it still sucks today. On September 15, he shared a Q&A to his Instagram Story and one social media user asked the beauty influencer what made him call Ariana the “rudest celebrity” he had ever met.
Based on a screenshot a fan shared on Twitter, he answered, “literally nothing”, adding “the fact that I said that is one of my biggest regrets of my career & it still follows me 4 years later which sucks.”
According to him, he’s planning to record a video review of R.E.M. beauty line, which is the singer’s upcoming beauty brand. He added, “I plan on talking about it more in depth when I film my review of REM. All I can hope is that people listen with an open mind.”
In 2018, James filmed a makeup tutorial with other YouTubers, Shane Dawson and Ryland Adams. While filming, he was asked to name the “rudest celebrity” he’d ever met and he answered it was the Grammy winner. According to him, Adriana followed him on Instagram after he posted from one of her show. She also sent her a DM to show her support. However, she unfollowed him a few hours later.
The beauty guru asked her about it and she said that some of her fans expressed their thoughts about her following his account, especially after he posted a disparaging tweet about Africa and the Ebola virus. He had long apologized for his remarks.
He shared, “I messaged her back, and I was like, ‘Hey, did I do something wrong?’ And she literally was like, ‘Hey, babe, I saw a lot of angry tweets from my fans, and I would never want to disappoint them, so I unfollowed.” He added that it was “really disappointing” of Ariana to “stoop to the level of listening to people bullying me, just to appease them.”
James Charles took a break from YouTube in April after he was accused of sending inappropriate messages to minors. He apologized regarding the incident and eventually returned to YouTube in July.
