When news broke out that Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are engaged, many fans told the pop star to get a prenup.
In July, her attorney requested to have her father, Jamie Spears, removed as her co-conservator and overseer of her estate which amounts to $60 million. Jamie eventually stepped down and filed to end the conservatorship once and for all. In September 22, Britney’s lawyer filed for the “immediate suspension” of her dad from his position.
The lawyer linked the urgency to Britney’s engagement and revealed that the multi-awarded singer is indeed getting a prenuptial agreement.
According to court papers as reported by Deadline, “To all the reasons why immediate suspension always has been required, we now can add another essential one: as has been publicly reported, Ms. Spears recently became engaged. With Ms. Spears’s consent and pursuant to her instructions, Ms. Spears and the undersigned counsel are in the process of engaging a family law attorney to craft a prenuptial agreement.”
The filing added, “The prenuptial agreement process will require communications with and cooperation from the Conservator of her Estate but, as referenced above and well-established in the record, given that Ms. Spears’ s relationship with that Conservator (her father) is broken, Mr. Spears’s continued involvement would impede the ability to negotiate and consummate a contract that all can agree is in Ms. Spears’s best interests.”
The 39-year-old singer and her 27-year-old long-time boyfriend, announced their engagement via Instagram of September 12. One of her fans, Octavia Spencer, urged her to get a prenup for her third marriage but she eventually apologized to the couple privately and publicly.
Britney and her second ex-husband Kevin Federline signed a prenuptial agreement. They share two sons but divorced in 2007. Meanwhile, her first marriage to Jason Alexander in 2004 was annulled 55 hours after they married in Las Vegas.
The latest filing from her lawyer stated that, “while the entire conservatorship is promptly wound down and formally terminated, it is clear that Mr. Spears cannot be permitted to hold a position of control over his daughter for another day.” The lawyer requested for the immediate removal of Jamie as her conservator and to have him replaced until “the conservatorship is completely and inevitably terminated this fall.”
As the filing stated, “As we have previously stated, Britney Spears’s life matters. Britney Spears’s well-being matters. And under the circumstances, every day matters because every day Mr. Spears clings to his post is another day of anguish and harm to his daughter, which is avoidable via immediate suspension.”
