Britney Spears is one step closer to freedom from her conservatorship after her dad Jamie Spears’ suspension as her co-conservator.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny suspended Jamie from being the singer’s conservator of her estate on Wednesday, September 29, effective immediately. The court has appointed John Zabel, a businessman, to temporarily replace his role up to the end of the year. Further, Britney’s lawyer Mathew Rosengart stated to file a petition regarding their plans to terminate her conservatorship once and for all since it started in 2008.

After the hearing, Rosengart faced the press outside the courthouse and told a reporter that Britney is “very happy” about the court’s decision. However, he refused to say anything else.

In another press conference, he said that the “monumental” moment for the pop star is a “substantial step toward her freedom”.

“It’s been a lot of hard work,” he added. “It’s been intense. I’m proud. Britney’s proud.”

Moreover, the lawyer also showed his appreciation to the Free Britney movement for being “instrumental” in helping her face her conservatorship battle. He said, “And to the extent that it allowed my firm to carry the ball across the finish line, I thank them as well.”

Rosengart replaced Samuel Ingham, Britney’s long-time court-appointed lawyer, in July. He added positively that Britney has a great future ahead of her. Once the conservatorship is terminated as the lawyer expects, the multi-awarded singer can do whatever she wants and whenever she wants to. He explained, “Her future, in terms of if and when she performs again is that decision that Britney and only Britney can make. That’s an important point, because for so long, for so long, decisions were made for her.”

So far, Britney hasn’t spoken publicly about the hearing but she shared on Instagram a photo of herself in a flight simulator and captioned it, “On cloud 9 right now !!!! First time flying a plane and first time in a prop plane !!! Geez I was scared !!!”

Meanwhile, many of her fellow musicians shared her joy including Cher and Dionne Warwick. Above all, her fiancé, Sam Asghari, applauded her on Instagram by posting, “Free Britney! Congratulations!!!!!!!!! … She did this. Her fan base is called an army for a reason.”

Britney’s next hearing is on November 12.
