Ladies and gentlemen, meet Ye!
You got that right. Kanye West has officially changed his name after a judge approved his request in court which he filed last August. The request was granted on October 18 which allowed him to change from Kanye Omari West to Ye.
This didn’t come as a surprise to many of his fans. After all, he has gone by many names in the past since he became an artist. He decided to change his name recently for personal reasons. He started giving himself the said nickname in 2018 before appearing on Saturday Night Live. He tweeted then, “The being formally known as Kanye West…I am YE.”
According to an interview that time, the moniker has a spiritual meaning to him. He explained, “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye — just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.”
He released his album Ye a few months before he was supposed to release another album, Yahndi. However, that project was shelved and instead, he released Jesus is King on October 19.
Meanwhile, the rapper has his new album, Donda, which he named after his late mother. He held listening parties prior to its releases which his ex, Kim Kardashian, attended. The two decided to live separate lives earlier this year. Kim filed for divorce in February.
Although the two are no longer together, they’re still very supportive of each other. After Kim attended his Donda music events, he recently helped her with her hosting gig for Saturday Night Live. He also helped her with her out-of-this-world MET gala outfit which sparked different reactions.- Advertisement -
Ye was spotted recently wearing a prosthetic mask while meeting with Michael Cohen at the Upper East Side on Tuesday. This isn’t the first time he was spotted with the strange mask as he also wore it when he arrived at the JFK Airport. Though he claimed to wear it for privacy reasons, it obviously didn’t work as fans still recognized the rapper.
