Selena Gomez released her makeup line, Rare Beauty, earlier this month and it’s been the talk of the town and the internet since its official release. Many beauty vloggers including Nikkie Tutorials, Huda Kattan, and Manny Mua tested the cosmetics company’s products and left mostly positive reviews in their respective YouTube channels.
However, it was YouTuber Patrick Starrr who got a lot of attention for his vlog and review about Rare Beauty.
The vlogger created the video on September 6 where he took viewers through the items he got from the Rare Beauty PR package. He explained his thoughts regarding the makeup’s quality as he applied it.
This is normal when someone’s doing a product review but what pissed off and disappointed many viewers was how Patrick would frequently compare Rare Beauty’s items to those from his One/Size collection from Sephora. There was even a part in the video where he said he preferred his eyeliner over that of Rare’s because that’s just him.
Patrick Starrr admitted being biased but many commenters were disappointed in his behavior.
There was one commenter who said, “Why make a review of Rare beauty [sic] when all you’re going to do is compare and talk about your products. Majority of your comments just seemed shady. I feel like a lot of people reviewing Selena’s line are not reviewing the products for what they are. She is not advertising a full coverage look so obviously it’s not what you are going to get. We know full coverage is what you prefer that’s not what we are here for, we want to know if the products do what they are DESCRIBED AS.” The comment has garnered thousands of likes from people who obviously shared the same opinion.
Somehow, Patrick’s review made it to Rare Beauty’s headquarters and now the cosmetics company has released a statement not to clap back at the vlogger but to thank him for reviewing their products.

The Rare Beauty team tweeted, “We’re so thrilled by all the great feedback on @rarebeauty so far! It’s so uplifting to see how much love and support we’re receiving from the community for our brand mission and our products. But please remember that everyone has different preferences with makeup, and not everything is going to work for everyone. That’s okay! @patrickstarrr is such a positive voice in this community and an incredible creator and entrepreneur so let’s all show him nothing but love!”
Patrick responded by saying I love you to Selena and congratulating her on the launch.
