Gugu Mbatha–Raw revealed that she is considering playing Meghan Markle in Netflix’s hit drama series The Crown. The English actress initially thought that the idea was hilarious when fans of the series expressed that they want Mbatha–Raw to play the Duchess of Sussex. She then added that she is very flattered and that she has to consider it.
Furthermore, the star of Belle (2013) also openly spoke about the role, and how it will become a winner given that people are presently enamored by the happenings in the royal family, especially when it comes to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The 38-year-old English actress remarked that the marriage and life of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle give off a fairytale vibe from an American perspective. However, she added that she does not know half of the story and that she is sure that it is not an easy life for the Duke and Duchess.
Mbatha–Raw is known for her performances in British stage productions and television. She appeared in the 2013 historical drama Belle opposite Sam Reid where she played Dido, a mixed-raced and illegitimate daughter of a British Admiral (Matthew Goode) who then joins the campaign that seeks to abolish slavery in England.
She also appeared in Beauty and the Beast (2017) where she played the role of the feather duster.
Additionally, the English performer said that she respects everything and that she wishes them good luck, knowing that it is a hard transition to make.
In the meantime, The Crown is still focusing on the pre-Meghan Markle years. The Crown is currently trying to wrap up its fifth season with the spotlight on Princess Diana, who is being played by Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki who was spotted wearing a black off-shoulder dress by Christina Stambolian while filming.
The said dress was said to be responsible for coining the term ‘revenge dress’ because it was the dress Princess Diana wore when ITV aired the documentary where Prince Charles admitted his affair with now-wife Camilla (Duchess of Cornwall) while he was still married to Diana.
The Crown’s fifth season will premier this 2022, while the sixth and last season will premiere in 2023.
