The pop star unfollowed her estranged sister Jamie Lynn Spears on Instagram following their ongoing rift last year, specifically during the last few months of Britney’s conservatorship battle, which she finally won in November after 13 years.
The multi-awarded singer spoke out against Jamie Lynn, her mom Lynne Spears, and their father Jamie Spears, who controlled her conservatorship for a long time. Many fans accused them of financially taking advantage of Britney. Others blame Jamie Lynn for not doing enough to help her and support the #FreeBritney movement.
Meanwhile, her dad Jamie was suspended from being her conservator two months before conservatorship was terminated. He issued a statement through his lawyer saying, “For 13 years, [Mr. Spears] has tried to do what is in [Britney’s] best interests, whether as a conservator or her father…For anyone who has tried to help a family member dealing with mental health issues, they can appreciate the tremendous amount of daily worry and work this required. For Mr. Spears, this also meant biting his tongue and not responding to all the false, speculative, and unsubstantiated attacks on him by certain members of the public, media, or more recently, Britney’s own attorney.”
Britney finally spoke up about her experiences being under the conservatorship and for the first time, fans have heard her side of the story. Though a source close to Jamie Lynn claimed that she has “continued to advocate for her sister behind the scenes and working on their relationship, which she doesn’t like to publicize because of how it could be framed. Family is her sole focus and she wants to be the best mom, sister, and aunt that she can be.”
However, a different source close to Britney mentioned that the singer feels hurt and angry at Jamie Lynn after abandoning her and letting her down during what she referred to as the fight of her life. Aside from being sisters, they were best friends.
Meanwhile, Britney considers herself as a free woman after her conservatorship was finally terminated. She’s engaged to Sam Asghari, her long-time boyfriend who never left her side throughout her conservatorship battle.
