Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst passed away at the age of 30.
The beauty queen turned lawyer free from a 60-story condominium in New York City where she lived on the ninth floor on Sunday, January 30, at around 7 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death is an apparent suicide though there’s no official cause of death yet.
Through a statement via Extra, where she worked as a correspondent, her parents said, “In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie. Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined.”
The statement continued, “Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA, and as a host on Extra. But most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague — we know her impact will live on. As we reflect on our loss, the family asks for privacy at this time.”
Kryst posted on her Instagram page on Sunday where she shared a glam photo of herself and captioned it, “May this day bring you rest and peace.”
A day before that, the former Miss USA took to her Instagram Story to congratulate Miss North Carolina USA Morgan Romano as well as Gabby Ortega who won Miss North Carolina Teen USA. She told them, “Best of luck at Miss USA and Miss Teen USA!” Further, Kryst shared a vlog on YouTube kast week showing her haircare routine.
Kryst was crowned Miss USA in 2019 after winning Miss North Carolina on the same year. She graduated at the Wake Forest University School of Law and later worked as a civil litigator at the Poyner Spruill LLP in North Carolina. She also founded White Collar Gem, a business apparel blog for women.
Meanwhile, she took a break from work after winning as Miss USA 2019 but in 2020, the firm she was working in appointed her as its first diversity advisor.
Moreover, she also worked as a NY correspondent for Extra in 2019. The show’s producers shared on their website, “Our hearts are broken. Cheslie was not just a vital part of our show, she was a beloved part of our Extra family and touched the entire staff. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends.”
