Kanye “Ye” West opens up about mental health on Instagram on Thursday, February 10.
The 44-year-old rapper received a comment accusing him of being “off the meds” and claiming that his upcoming Donda 2 album is “gonna be crazy”. He shared a screenshot of the said message and said, “DISMISSIVE TO SAY IM OFF MY MEDS ANYTIME I SPEAK UP.”
Ye also posted, “THE WORLD IS RACIST SEXIST HOMOPHOBIC AND CRAZY PHOBIC AT OUR CORE ITS CHEAP.” He explained that the “PHOBIA” he’s talking about “DOESN’T MEAN BEING AFRAID,” but rather “IT MEANS NOT GIVING POWER TO [it].”
The artist concluded his message by posting, “LETS BE MORE CONSCIOUS AND NOT WRITE EACH OTHER OFF SO EASILY.”
The award-winning rapper has been open about his struggles with mental health in the past, specifically with his bipolar disorder diagnosis. He talked about it during his appearance on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman in 2019.
He explained to host David Letterman, “They love to cut your sentences off halfway. What you say doesn’t mean as much. Sometimes, for me, I think it’s a form of protection for me, because if I’m peeping something that people don’t want me to think about or know as a celebrity, ‘Oh, he’s just crazy,’ and then I go home. If they didn’t think I was crazy, it may be a problem.”
He also shared about the time when he was hospitalized in 2016 and how mental health was “something that, you know, we’re going to have to take time to understand.”
The rapper admitted researching the topic explaining “the experience of when you go through an episode, if you actually go to the hospital, there’s a moment that I have to talk about publicly that has to be changed. So, I’m gonna talk about this publicly so this moment can change.”- Advertisement -
He added, “This is my experience. Some people have other experiences.”
According to reports, he hosted a listening party for his Donda 2 album earlier this week at Nobu in Malibu. After which, he brought his friends to NICE Guy in L.A. for an event which Kendall Jenner also attended. He teased his album on social media saying, “EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY FUTURE.”
Earlier, Kim Kardashian opened up about the real reason of her and Kanye’s divorce.
