Kim Kardashian has her single status back!

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Steve Cochran ruled the reality star single from Kanye “Ye” West on Wednesday, March 2, after she first filed the request in December 2021. Kim filed for divorce from her estranged husband in February 2021.

The 41-year-old SKIMS founder appeared during the hearing through a video conference. The judge asked the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star some questions under oath. When the judge asked her if she wanted to have her maiden name back, the reality star answered, “Yes.” She also replied the same when the judge questioned if a breakdown happened in the marriage. Kim smiled after the judge told her that her single status is back.

Meanwhile, Ye’s new attorney, Samantha Spector, said that her client had “no issues” with Kim changing her name back and claimed he’s more concerned about his “assets and interest.” She added that he wanted to “make sure his trust was protected.”

On the other hand, Laura Wasser, Kim’s lawyer, objected to the business mogul’s trust being frozen. She argued that the reality star uses the trust in running her business. The judge sided with them on this matter.

Spector explained that the rapper is protecting his retirement plan and still wanted Kim to waive her “marital privilege”. Doing so would allow him to call her new husband, in the event that she remarries, in case issues arise in the future to testify regarding his communications with her.

The judge asked both parties regarding the schedule on when they’d like to return to talk about other matters. Spector asked for 120 days, adding that “there is a lot of custody issues that need to be worked out.”

Wassner said, “I don’t think so, your Honor. There hasn’t been any issue in the past year.”

The judge granted Spector’s request and both parties are expected to return on August 5 for a status conference hearing.

As far as waiving marital privilege is concerned, Kim’s lawyer said in court documents last month, “Clearly Mr. West’s goal here is to prevent or make it difficult for Ms. Kardashian to remarry.” The judge sided with Kim and denied Ye’s request.

The former couple shares four children: North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2.
