Miley Cyrus’ parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus are speaking up about their recent divorce filing.

The former couple issued a joint statement to People stating, “It is after 30 years, five amazing children and a lifetime of memories, we have decided to go our separate ways—not with sadness, but with love in our hearts. We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of, and it is now time to create our own paths.”

They also mentioned that they didn’t “come to this decision lightly or quickly” and they’re keeping things amicable.

The statement continued, “We will always be family and look forward to a continued and loving shared experience as friends and parents. With so much going on in the world, we wanted to provide some clarity and closure, so we can remain focused on what is important.”

Meanwhile, E! News obtained documents claiming that Tish filed for divorce from the singer in Williamson County, Tennessee on April 6. They’ve been married for 28 years before filing for divorce due to “irreconcilable differences”. According to the documents, Tish, 54, and Billy Ray, 60, lived separately since February 2020.

The soon-to-be exes have three children together: Miley, 29, Braison, 27, and Noah, 22. Billy Ray also adopted Tish’s children from her previous marriage, Brandi, 34, and Trace, 33. Meanwhile, he also has a 30-year-old son, Christopher, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Kristin Luckey.

Their divorce isn’t exactly news to everybody because this is the third time that they’ve split since they got married in 1993. In 2010, they filed for divorce but months later announced they were working things out between them. They filed for divorce again in 2013 and reconciled only 10 days later. Their divorce case was dismissed in May 2017.

The couple shared in another statement then, “We both woke up and realized we love each other and decided we want to stay together. We both went into couples therapy something we haven’t done in 22 years of being together, and it’s brought us closer together and really opened up our communication in amazing ways.”

During that time, Miley shared about her parents’ relationship and the lesson she learned from it. She told Cosmopolitan in 2017, “One thing I’ve learned about marriage from my parents: Nothing and no one stays the same. Grow, evolve, change with each other and celebrate your love’s journey.”
