Johnny Depp and Amber Heard faced each other in the courtroom after the trial for the actor’s $50 million defamation lawsuit started in a courtroom in Virginia. According to Depp’s lawyers, the actress ruined his reputation by “choosing to lie about him for her own personal benefit.”
In 2018, the Aquaman star wrote an essay for the Washington Post, where she considered herself a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Depp’s name was never mentioned in the said op-ed which the actor’s lawyers claimed was part of an “elaborate hoax.”
On April 9, Heard took to Instagram to express, “Johnny is suing me for an op-ed I wrote in the Washington Post, in which I recounted my experience of violence and domestic abuse. I wrote about the price women pay for speaking out against men in power. I continue to pay that price, but hopefully when this case concludes, I can move on and so can Johnny.”

Johnny “Lied” About His Severed Finger Because He Didn’t Want Her to Get Into Trouble
The actor said during his testimony on April 20 that he “lied” to the doctor about how he injured his finger. He explained, “I didn’t want to get her in trouble. I tried to just keep things as copasetic and as easy as possible for everyone. I did not want to put her name in that mix.”
He Was Reminded of the Abuse He and His Dad Allegedly Experienced From His Mom
Johnny was reminded of the abuse he and his dad allegedly experienced from his mom. He explained, “The only thing I learned to do was exactly what I did as a child—retreat, take a step back,” he said. “Why did I stay? I stayed, I suppose, because my father stayed.”
He Claims that Amber “Verbally Decimate” Him by Using His Childhood
The actor claimed that Amber used his childhood against him. He explained it “became ammunition for Miss Heard to either verbally decimate me or to send me into a kind of tailspin of confusion and depression.”
He said that the “only way to find any sort of peace was to try to walk away,” adding “there were times when I would just go and lock myself in the bathroom or anywhere that she couldn’t get into.”
He Admitted to Using Drugs and Alcohol as a “Numbing Agent”
According to the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, he and Amber experienced “constant clashes” when they were still together. He would turn to drugs and alcohol “to have something to distance me and distance my heart from those verbal attacks.”
“I was more inspired by Miss Heard to reach out for a numbing agent,” he continued. “I had to have something to be able to maintain me.”
He Claims That Amber Put Out a Cigarette on His Face
Johnny claimed that Amber allegedly lit a cigarette once and then “stomped it out on my face.”
He explained, “This was after the finger had gone away. She stubbed it out in my face, on my cheek.”
Earlier, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s former marriage counselor claimed there had been mutual abuse between them.
