Zendaya is one of the most highly-anticipated actresses to grace the red carpet at the Met Gala. However, fans are in for a major disappointment this year as the Euphoria star won’t be attending the annual event.

The actress told Extra during an interview that she won’t be among the attendees of the 2022 Met Gala on May 2. The event will be held at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

She revealed, “I hate to disappoint my fans here, but I will be working. Your girl’s got to work and make some movies, so I wish everyone the best—I will be playing tennis.” Presently, the actress is filming Challengers, a movie focusing on the competitive world of tennis.

If it’s any consolation, the fashionista confirmed that she’ll definitely make it to the Met Gala in the future. She assured fans, “I’ll be back, though, eventually.” She was also absent during the 2021 Met Gala because she had to work.

She explained to the outlet at that time, “My fans are going to be very upset with me. I will unfortunately not be able to attend because I’ll be working for Euphoria.”

However, the “Dune” actress promised that she’ll definitely make up for missing the 2022 Met Gala by serving red carpet looks that will once again turn heads. She laughed, saying, “I’ll keep delivering in other ways.”

The last time Zendaya attended the annual event was in 2019. Back then, the “Spider-Man: No Way Home” star wore a stunning “Cinderella” gown which literally changed its colors. It was the creation of her Fairy Godmother and stylist, Law Roach.

Zendaya’s Met Gala outfits never failed to leave a lasting impression whether she’s wearing a Fausto Puglisi attire or the unforgettable Versace armored full-length dress, which happens to be her boyfriend, Tom Holland’s, favorite.

This year’s theme is centered on “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” which follows last year’s theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”

While Zendaya will be absent at the event, many celebrities have already announced their attendance, including Megan thee Stallion and Katy Perry. On the other hand, Kim Kardashian hasn’t confirmed she’s going because it still depends on whether or not she’ll fit into the outfit she’s planning on wearing.
