The long-running show lasted for 19 seasons. The final episode aired on May 26 and it was a full-circle moment as Ellen DeGeneres also had Aniston as her first guest when the show started in 2003.
Aniston has appeared on the said program 20 times. She said, “Oh, where does 19 years go? I don’t understand.”
The actress is no alien to finales as the hit series Friends also lasted for 10 years. When asked about how she felt when their series ended, she answered, “Well, I got a divorce and went into therapy. Oh! And then I did a movie called The Break-Up. I just kinda leaned into the end. I just was like, ‘You know what, guys? Let’s make this a completely new chapter. Let’s just end everything and start new.’ It worked great.”
However, Aniston told the host not to follow her lead. DeGeneres is married to Portia de Rossi. The actress told her, “Now you and Portia, no, no.”
In 2004, Friends ended and in 2005, she and ex-husband Brad Pitt divorced after almost five years of being married. They eventually remarried which also ended. Pitt and Angelina Jolie tied the knot in 2014. She filed for divorce in 2016 and they were both legally single by 2019. On the other hand, Aniston married Justin Theroux in 2015 but their relationship ended in 2018.
In 2018, she told ELLE her marriages were “very successful”, saying, “When they came to an end, it was a choice that was made because we chose to be happy, and sometimes happiness didn’t exist within that arrangement anymore.”
Meanwhile, she revealed that she remains in good terms with her ex-husbands. For instance, after their split, she and Theroux have spent holidays together and they also gave each other shout-outs on Instagram.
The actor told Esquire in April 2021, “Like it or not, we didn’t have that dramatic split, and we love each other. I’m sincere when I say that I cherish our friendship. We can not be together and still bring each other joy and friendship. Also, she makes me laugh very, very hard.”
As her relationship with Pitt, the two greeted each other with a hug in the 2020 SAG Awards.
In addition to Aniston, DeGeneres also had Pink and Billie Eilish in her show’s finale.
