Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen called it quits in 2005 while she was still six months pregnant with their second child. During an episode of Divorced Not Dead podcast by Dear Media, the actress told host Caroline Stanbury that it was a “difficult” split and there were many reasons behind it.
She explained that though they looked happy in public, it wasn’t the same at home. She said, “The behind-the-scenes stuff was way worse than what was out there. It was really bad.”
In the end, she divorced Charlie. They have two children together- Sami, 18, and Lola, 17. She actually asked herself, “Would I want my daughters to be married to this man?”
“No offense to him, but I think he would take that and understand what I’m saying,” she added. “It was very toxic.”
Despite everything that happened between them, Denise revealed she never regretted marrying the actor “because I really do feel that he and I were brought together to have our daughters.”
She even revealed that they reconciled for a while after giving birth to Lola but t only made her realize why she needed to end their relationship. She explained, “It made me also know I could one day tell my girls that I did everything I could possibly do to make this family unit. I felt the most guilty splitting up the family unit. I struggled with that for years.”
She added, “There is a lot that the public doesn’t know, and you never know what goes on behind closed doors. It was not a good situation.”
In 2011, Denise adopted Eloise and married Aaron Phypers in 2018.
The actress shared that though her marriage to Charlie didn’t work out, their relationship has evolved and it’s now in a better place. She said, “To this day, Charlie does know he can call me at any time, no matter what. I don’t care what he says or does, I will show up and be there because I always wanted him—and still do—to be the best dad for our daughters.”
Just recently, their eldest daughter, Sami, joined OnlyFans. Charlie disapproved of it saying that Denise “has illuminated a variety of salient points, that in my haste, I overlooked and dismissed.”
“Now more than ever, it’s essential that Sami have a united parental front to rely upon, as she embarks on this new adventure,” he added. “From this moment forward, she’ll have it abundantly.”
