Kanye West will no longer do business with Gap.
The rapper’s Yeezy fashion brand and the famous retailer is ending their collaboration. On August 16, his lawyers already sent a breach-of-contract notice to Gap which the brand responded to on August 23. Nicholas Gravante Jr., Kanye’s lawyer, told E! News that he was left with “no choice but to terminate their collaboration agreement because of GAP’s substantial noncompliance.”

Gravante wrote, “Ye had diligently tried to work through these issues with GAP both directly and through counsel. He has gotten nowhere. GAP’s substantial noncompliance with its contractual obligations has been costly. Ye will now promptly move forward to make up for lost time by opening Yeezy retail stores.”
The rapper signed a 10-year-deal with Gap in 2020 which included creating a clothing line under Yeezy Gap. They released their first product in June 2021, a blue puffer jacket, which sold out in hours.
During an interview with CNBC’s Closing Bell on September 15, the Donda artist explained he’s ending business with Gap due to alleged product pricing issues, lack of Yeezy Gap stores, inability to meet contractual commitments.
He told host Sara Eisen, “They have one individual on the planet that could save the Gap. Who is that?” He added, “I’m asking you who do you think it is. Sometimes the answer is sitting right in front of you.” Yeezy and Gap struck a deal in 2020.
He further said, “Don’t bring a leader in and have them not lead. Why would I argue with people who are getting paid by the Gap? I’m not going to argue with people that are broker than me about money.”
On September 15, E! News obtained a copy of a message sent to Gap employees by its President and CEO Mark Breitbard that said, “Important to know is that throughout this partnership, we have upheld our commitments – and the teams have done so with the utmost integrity, navigating obstacles and demonstrating incredible resolve.”
“Simply put…while we share a vision of bringing high-quality, trend-forward, utilitarian design to all people through unique omni experiences with Yeezy Gap, how we work together to deliver this vision is not aligned. And we are deciding to wind down the partnership,” he added.
Just recently Kanye West got into a scandal for selling Yeezy Gap in black trash bags.
