Maisie Williams opened up about her “traumatic” childhood and the way she was brought up as a child and how it has affected her while growing up. The Game of Thrones star recounted some disturbing moments from her adolescence that she’ll never forget for as long as she lives.

The 25-year-old actress shared during an episode of the podcast, The Diary of a CEO, “As a young child before the age of 8, I had a traumatic relationship with my dad.”

“[That relationship] really consumed a lot of my childhood. Ever since I can remember I really struggled with sleeping, and I think a lot of the traumatic things that were happening, I didn’t realize that they were wrong,”

“I don’t want to go into it too much because it affects my siblings and my whole family. But, like, that really consumed a lot of my childhood.”

She added, “Ever since I can remember, I’ve really struggled sleeping.”

The actress explained that though “a lot of the traumatic things” were happening during that period of her life, she “didn’t realize that they were wrong.” She also said that she struggled with her identity and mental health brought about by such experiences from her childhood. However, she’s able to accept the truth about her past.

She admitted, “To be honest, I have been thinking about this a lot. It’s not because of me that these bad things happened when I was a child. I thought it was. I through there was something inherently wrong with me, that it could be anyone experiencing the pain.”

She previously talked about her mental health journey and how being famous at a young age affected her wellbeing. She started her career as an actress in 2011 when she became a part of Games of Thrones. She acted in the series from 12-22 years old.

In 2019, she told during an episode of the podcast, Happy Place, “It’s just a constant feed in your back pocket of what people think of you. And I think we’d all like to say that we would turn a blind eye and wouldn’t care, but it’s impossible to do.”

She added, “It sounds really hippy-dippy and like look within you to find peace, but it is true. At the end of your day, you’re making yourself feel this way for a reason.”

At present, she’s working on The New Look, a TV series about how designer Christian Dior became famous.
