It’s been a year after Lily Collins married writer/director Charlie McDowell and she finally opened up about what it’s like to be a newlywed as well as their life as a married couple.

The Emily in Paris star told E! News exclusively during the 16th Annual GO Campaign Gala Presented by Netflix and Beachbody in L.A. on October 8, “We kind of conquer anything.”

She continued, “We’ve been through so many changes globally, personally, and to be able to have a partner next to you that makes you laugh in times when you need it the most and helps you emotionally get through things, like moving to a foreign country for four months.”

Collins added, “I just feel so grateful that I have someone next to me to be able to accomplish that and your best friend with you all the time.”

The actress attended the charity event with her husband. She was the evening’s host and looked absolutely stunning in her Prada dress and Cartier jewelry.

The 33-year-old actress and the 39-year-old writer/director first became Instagram official in August 2019. A year later, McDowell popped the question and she said yes. They tied the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony in Colorado last September 2021. They exchanged vows in front of their family and close friends, including McDowell’s mom, actress Mary Steenburgen.

She took to Instagram after the wedding to share a touching message to the newlywed couple that stated, “Charlie, my son, and Lily, my daughter-in-law!!! Thank you for letting us all bask in the sheer beauty of your love for each other. My heart is overflowing and it almost feels like the last few days were some sort of beautiful dream. But it is all real, and I feel like the luckiest mother in the world.”

Collins also shared a sweet tribute to her husband during their wedding anniversary last month and included two cute pics of the two of them

She wrote on September 30, “Thank you for being my rock, my constant source of love and laughs, and my emotional support throughout our time here yet again. Our faces pretty much sum up this season. We certainly know how to work hard and play hard together. I love you beyond @charliemcdowell and I couldn’t have done it without you.”
