Kelly Clarkson is being sued by Brandon Blackstock’s dad’s management company.
The Starstruck Management Group filed a lawsuit on Tuesday, September 29 at the Los Angeles Superior Court stating that the host owes $1.4 million in commission.
In 2013, Clarkson tied the knot with Blackstock, son of Narvel Blackstock who owns the company. However, she filed for divorce in June 2020. The couple has two children namely River Rose, 6, and Remington Alexander, 4.
According to the lawsuit obtained by E! News, the company is accusing her for breaching an oral agreement because she “decided that she is going to stop paying Starstruck what is contractually owed.”
It was in 2007 when the 38-year-old celebrity started with the said company and she allegedly agreed to pay 15 percent of her gross earnings based on the industry standard commission fee. This also included her future earnings from projects while she’s still under the management.
According to the files, the singer was able to pay her commissions in the past until recently. She allegedly owed an estimated $3.36 in commissions this 2020 but so far she has only paid $1.92 million. In addition, Starstruck estimated that at the end of the year she’ll owe them at least $5.4 million.
The suit stated, “Over the course of approximately thirteen years, Starstruck developed Clarkson into a mega superstar. Starstruck contends that the Clarkson Defendants are obligated to continue to pay Starstruck Commissions.”
Clarkson is yet to address the allegations against her.
Meanwhile, the The Voice coach talked about her divorce from Brandon Blackstock in her talk show. The two connected in 2012 during the Super Bowl. According to her, what she was dealing with was hard because her heart isn’t the only one involved but also a lot of little hearts. They have four kids including Seth and Savannah from Blackstock’s previous marriage. She added that divorce is never easy and both of them came from divorced families. They know that the best thing to do is protect their children.
Further, Clarkson mentioned that their divorce will be private and won’t go far into it because her kids are her priority.
