Charlie Puth recalled a memorable encounter with Harry Styles.
According to the “Attention” singer, he accidentally blew the cover of the former One Direction band member while having dinner at a sushi restaurant in L.A. So how did it happen?
Charlie shared during his appearance on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on October 11, “I didn’t know him at the time. I don’t get smitten with anybody. At the time, I was just whole-body chills. He had a hat on, and it was very 2014 One Direction era.”
Charlie was a fan and excitedly tweeted the moment. He told host Jimmy Fallon, “And I for whatever reason took out my phone and was like, ‘You’re not going to believe this, what a week in L.A., I sign a record contract and who walks in none other than Harry Styles,’. And then 15 paparazzi are out front in, like, five minutes.”
Charlie added that the “Watermelon Sugar” artist didn’t say anything to him, although, he seemed annoyed at what happened. He explained, “He looks at me and then just does a nod and follows me. I don’t know if that was a good follow. And that’s it.”
So how are the two musicians now? Charlie admitted, “Haven’t heard from him since. I don’t think he likes me very much.”
Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time that the songwriter shared about the incident with the Don’t Worry Darling actor. In an interview with GQ in September 2020, he revealed that it was the first time he got starstruck. Though he also rose to fame after his record-breaking song with Wiz Khalifa for the Fast and Furious 7 soundtrack in 2015, he couldn’t help but felt blown away by seeing the former One Directioner.
The “Left and Right” singer said, “It was in 2014. I went to this place called Sushi Park and Harry Styles came in wearing this very large hat, with my now-friend Jeff Azoff, who I didn’t know at the time. Like a buffoon I tweeted, “So cool, I’m in LA, I signed my deal and now I see Harry Styles at dinner!” thinking that nothing would happen, then suddenly 15 people were outside the restaurant waiting for him. I was really embarrassed, he cheekily followed me after as a kind of “F you”.
