Nick Carter shared a heartbreaking tribute to his brother, Aaron Carter, after he passed away on November 5. He was only 34 years old.

He shared a slideshow containing pictures of the two of them through the years together with his Instagram post. He said, “My heart has been broken today. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded.

“I have always held onto the hope, that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed. Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss. But the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here.”

The former Backstreet Boys member concluded, “I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you Chizz., now you get a chance to finally have some peace you could never find here on earth….God,Please take care of my baby brother.”

Nick and Aaron’s relationship became strained over the years. In 2019, the 42-year-old singer requested a restraining order against his younger brother. It was granted in November of the same year. Nick wrote in a statement during that period, “In light of Aaron’s increasingly alarming behavior and his recent confession that he harbors thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife, [Lauren Kitt], and unborn child, we were left with no choice but to take away every measure possible to protect ourselves and our family.”

Before his death, Nick was candid about his struggles with addiction. In 2016, he told Oprah, “I was telling people, ‘I’m on a very bad path right now, I need help. I called my mother. She took me down to her house. The next day I was at Betty Ford [Rehab] Center.”

A year later he was arrested for marijuana possession and DUI. Two months ago, he was also involved in a car accident. The singer has a son, Prince Lyric Carter, with Melanie Martin.

The model shared a statement via the AP, “We are still in the process of accepting this unfortunate reality. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.”
