Lily-Rose Depp will continue to maintain her silence regarding her father Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s trial.

In the December 2022/January 2023 cover story for Elle published on November 16, the actress shared, “When it’s something that’s so private and so personal that all of a sudden becomes not so personal … I feel really entitled to my secret garden of thoughts.”

The 23-year-old actress explained she’s “not here to answer for anybody”, adding, “I feel like for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever. And I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.”

Johnny, 59, and Heard, 36, were married from 2015 to 2017. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star sued the “Aquaman” actress for defamation two years after finalizing their divorce. The actress wrote an op-ed about sexual violence and in 2020, she filed a counterclaim.

Their trial started in April and ended last June. The jury found Heard guilty of all defamation claims against her. A month later, she requested a judge in Virginia to toss the verdict because the evidence didn’t hold up.

During the trial, Lily-Rose was criticized on social media for keeping her silent, but many fans also defended her.

In May, and Instagram user wrote, “She doesn’t owe you ANYTHING and she doesn’t need to do ANYTHING… stop harassing her.”

Another posted, “Ignore the hate love. … Not everything has to be public.”

However, she broke her silence online by posting on Instagram on her birthday with a caption, “🍦23🍧🌸!”

Lili-Rose remained neutral throughout her interview with the outlet, but she did share some insights on how she was raised by her dad and her mom, Vanessa Paradis.

She said, “I know my childhood didn’t look like everybody’s childhood, and it’s a very particular thing to deal with, but it’s also the only thing that I know.”

“My parents protected my brother, [Jack], and me from it as much as possible. I’ve just been raised in a manner that has taught me that privacy is something that’s important to protect.”
