Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck‘s road towards happily ever after was no bed of roses. The singer and actress reflected on her rekindled romantic relationship with the actor and shared about the pains she suffered after they broke their engagement in 2004 during a recent interview with Apple Music 1.
The 53-year-old singer told host Zane Lowe, “It was so painful after we broke up. Once we called off that wedding 20 years ago, it was the biggest heartbreak of my life. I honestly felt like I was going to die.”
She continued, “It sent me on a spiral for the next 18 years where I just couldn’t get it right. But now, 20 years later, it does have a happy ending. It has the most ‘would never happen in Hollywood’ ending.”
Lopez and Affleck, 50, got back together 17 years after their first breakup. On Friday, the “Let’s Get Loud” singer announced she’ll be releasing a new album entitled “This Is Me … Now,” an updated play of her album “This Is Me … Then,” which was released in 2002.
She explained, “We captured me at this moment in time when I was reunited with the love of my life and we decided we were going to be together forever. The whole message of the album is, ‘This love exists. This is a real love.’”
Lopez and Affleck first got engaged in November 2002, the same month her album “This Is Me … Then” was released. However, the two broke up two years later.
Lopez told Lowe, “Now I think what the message of [the album] is — if you have, like me at times, lost hope, almost given up, don’t. True love does exist and some things do last forever and that’s real. I want to put that message out into the world and that does take a lot of vulnerability.”
The couple started hanging out again in April 2021 after Lopez broke up with her ex-fiancé Alex Rodriguez. A year later, the two announced their engagement and finally got married in Las Vegas in July this year. They had another lavish wedding ceremony in August at the actor’s Georgia estate. The wedding was attended by their close friends and family and was officiated by life coach, Jay Shetty.
Lopez and her ex-husband Marc Anthony share twins Max and Emme, 14, while Affleck has three children with ex-wife Jennifer garner namely Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 10.
