Shailene Woodley revealed she had the worst time of her life amid her split with Aaron Rodgers last year while she was filming “Three Women.”
She told Net-A-Porter in an interview published on Monday, “It was hard to film because I was going through the darkest, hardest time in my life.”
She added, “It was winter in New York, and my personal life was s–tty, so it felt like a big pain bubble for eight months.”
However, the 31-year-old actress shared she was able to channel her pain through her character in the Showtime adaptation of the 2019 Lisa Taddeo’s book where she portrayed a writer who travelled around the country to report about the sex lives of three women.
She said, “I was so grateful that at least I could go to work and cry and process my emotions through my character.”
Moreover, the Divergent star changed the way she handled mental health. She traveled in Europe last summer and has learned to live in the moment.
According to her, “The way that I take care of myself now looks very different to the way I used to.”
Woodley and Rodgers, 39, started dating in 2020 and a year after, they announced they were engaged. However, breakup rumors surfaced last February after she was seen not wearing her engagement ring.
Despite the rumors that they’ve called off their engagement, they were willing to give it a second chance. They were spotted on several occasions from buying groceries together and attending a wedding together last March.
In the end, the actress and the athlete couldn’t patch things up and Woodley eventually decided she was done with it.
That same month, the actress shared on her Instagram Story about grief. She posted a quote, “‘Grief expressed out loud for someone we have lost, or a country or home we have lost, is in itself the greatest praise we could ever give them,’ says writer Martín Prechtel.”
“‘Grief is praise, because it is the natural way love honors what it misses.’”
Woodley is know for keeping her romantic relationships out of the spotlight. As for Rodgers, he has dated several famous women in the past including Danica Patrick, Olivia Mun, Jessica Szohr, and Kelly Rohrbach.
