Rihanna performed an epic halftime show at the 2023 Super Bowl on February 12 and it’s all for free.
In 2016, NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter told Forbes, that they do not pay the artists who perform during the halftime show. Instead, they only cover expenses and production costs.
Therefore, Rihanna shone like a diamond in her unforgettable NFL halftime show performance without being paid a single cent. Her performance featured her biggest hits, including “Umbrella”, “Diamonds”, and “Pour It Up,” which the 34-year-old Grammy winner delivered in an attractive red ensemble.
Before her big performance, Rihanna shared to Apple Music on February 9, “The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world. As scary as that was, because I haven’t been on stage in seven years, there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all. And it’s important for me to do this this year. It’s important for representation. It’s important for my son to see that.”
Not only did she leave the audience awestruck but she also revealed she’s expecting baby no. 2 with A$AP Rocky. She and the rapper welcomed their first child together in May.
During her halftime show, A$AP made it clear he’s Rihanna’s biggest fan. He was in the audience and based on the NFL’s Twitter on February 12, the rapper is seen smiling and cheering her on while watching her perform onstage. He was also captured recording her show using his phone.
Before Rihanna’s performance, A$AP already shared how excited he was about her show. According to People, he told Apple Music last month, “I’m so glad that my lady’s back making music again and whatnot, and getting back out there. It’s just incredible.”
He continued, “The Super Bowl is huge, and her being the creative she is, she going to bring it, man. I’m excited. I’m more excited than everybody else, honestly.”
The rapper also hinted that Rihanna is working on something new. Her last album, Anti, was released in 2016.
He revealed, “Especially for both of us, it is a good year for both of us to be more active and be out there.”
