Zendaya went vintage during the 2020 Green Carpet Fashion Awards’ virtual show on October 10.

The Euphoria actress accepted the Visionary Award and shared her excitement over her latest accomplishment in her speech. She said, “This is an incredible honor, it means the world to me. I think fashion has always truly lived in my heart ever since I was very, very young. I love clothes and I think it’s so much more than just clothes. I think it’s art, it’s emotion, it’s feeling, and to me, through clothes, I’ve been able to find myself and be more confident in myself… growing into my womanhood.”

Zendaya’s award wasn’t the only thing that caught people’s attention. She showed up to receive her award in a stunning ensemble. She wore a dazzling vintage Versace dress that didn’t only suit her perfectly but the said dress was very sentimental for the former Disney Channel star, too, because it was made in 1996 when she was born.

Law Roach styled the award-winning actress and shared on Instagram a video of Zendaya wearing the body-hugging dress and captioned it, “I think she’s the prettiest girl in the world. “@zendaya for the Green Carpet Fashion Awards wearing Archive @versace from Fall 1996 collection… the same year she was born!!!”

The celebrity stylist told British Vogue that Zendaya’s look was inspired by supermodels from the ‘90s. He explained that the actress was born in 1996 and that inspired him to dress her up with something from that year. He added that she would have been a Versace model then.

He went on to say, “People forget that vintage is sustainable; it’s a way to reduce waste. And there’s always a story: who’s worn it before, who made it, what did it mean to them, where did you find it? That part of fashion has always intrigued me, and brings more life to whatever you’re wearing.”

Zendaya’s dress was first worn by Anna Klevhag during the 1996 Versace autumn/winter runway show. The dress also has a purple version which was worn by Carla Bruni as well as a yellow one modeled by Naomi Campbell. Meanwhile, Kate Moss wore it for an ad campaign, too.

The stylist hopes that Zendaya’s choice will also inspire others on how to dress in the most eco-friendly way.
