Kelly Clarkson is 2020 Billboard Music Awards host for the third year in a row.
Just like other award shows that took place this year, the BBMAS was held virtually this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Clarkson herself started the show with an amazing rendition of “Higher Love” by Steve Winwood.
Aside from her incredible performance, she was also a sight to behold in her glamorous ensemble consisting of a sparkly gold dress with ruffles and plunging neckline as well as jewels on her ears and neck. Her makeup was spot on and she kept her straight hair down.
After her performance, she welcomed everybody to the 2020 Billboard Music Awards and reminded viewers that the show is all about how music touches everybody and unites all of us.
Long before the show, the singer has already shared her sentiments and promised that his year’s awards ceremony was going to be a form of “escapism” for everyone. She shared on Tuesday, October 13, “We’re just honestly trying to give everybody something a little normal. People are used to watching the Billboard Music Awards every year so we’re trying to keep that coming for everybody and provide the escapism that we all desperately need.”
She added, “It’s going to be a little different than what people are expecting but we’re definitely going to be catering to the times a bit and we have a powerful message. We’re not trying to make everybody cry or be more depressed about 2020. We’ve done that enough. It’s more of like uniting people and connecting people and you know, music has a very healing power to it and the power to connect people and that’s really what we’re focusing on for the opening.”
That time, Kelly even teased about how she would open the show. She said, “It’s going to be probably my favorite opening. I’m very much in love with what we’re doing and I can say that because it wasn’t my idea. It was actually my musical director’s idea.”
Indeed, Kelly was able to nail her opening number during the 2020 Billboard Music Awards. Viewers were also treated to other performances by their favorite artists like BTS, Alicia Keys, Demi Lovato, and more!
