The singer and third-time host kicked off the award show with her rendition of “Higher Love” by Whitney Houston. She was joined by Pentatonix, BBMA nominee, and Sheila E, a renowned drummer and known for being Prince’s protégé. Together, they started the show with a bang!
Alicia Keys Returned to the Billboard Music Awards Stage
Alicia Keys last BBMA performance was in 2012 when she had a duet with Stevie Wonder. This time, she was back and stunned viewers in her glittering white bodysuit. She was literally sparkling in her outfit as she performed “Love Looks Better”. Meanwhile, the singer was accompanied by a band and two dancers.
John Legend Dedicated His Performance to His Wife
John Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, lost their third baby recently. He delivered a moving performance of “Never Break” and dedicated it to his wife. It was undoubtedly the most emotional moment of the night which touched the hearts of many.
Garth Brooks was Honored with the Icon Award
The country music singer was honored with none other than the Icon Award which was presented by another iconic singer, Cher. He celebrated his award by singing a medley of his greatest hits like “The Thunder Rolls”, “Dive Bar”, “The River”, “The Dance”, and more. He thanked God Almighty and also expressed his love for Trisha Yearwood and his three daughters.
Demi Lovato Debuts “Commander in Chief”
The singer broke up with her fiancé recently but the heartache didn’t stop her from performing her new song, “Commander in Chief” which was highly political. The song condemned injustice, social apathy, as well as intolerance. Her latest single reflects her determination and what she stands for.
